(Boerne) – Seguin volleyball avenged an earlier District 26-5A loss Friday night and took sole possession of second place in the district standings with a 3-1 road win over Boerne-Champion.
After splitting the first two sets with a 25-20 win and a 25-19 loss, the Matadors seized control with a dominant 25-8 win in the third game and a match-clinching 25-19 triumph in the fourth.
Abby Cheek sent 17 kills over the net to pace Seguin’s offensive attack, Presley Carter finished with 13, Desiray Rodriguez added eight, and Carsyn Dietz chipped in with six.
Megan Wilke distributed 35 assists to the hitters. Leandra Priestly served for three aces, and Presley Engelke added two.
Kaylie Koenen led a defensive effort that saw four Matadors record double-digit dig totals. Koenen finished with 19, Priestly 18, Cheek 16, and Desiray Rodriguez 10. Rodriguez and Cheek each came up with three solo blocks, with Rodriguez notching two block assists and Cheek one.
Seguin is 7-2 in district play, 23-13 overall. The Mats continue the 26-5A schedule Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. road match at Kerrville-Tivy.
