(Wimberley) – Navarro is headed to the 4A Region IV volleyball tournament for the second straight season with dreams of back-to-back state tournament berths intact after a 3-1 victory over Fredericksburg in Tuesday’s regional quarterfinal match at Wimberley High School.
The Panthers controlled the first two sets 25-21, 25-14, but the Battlin’ Billies staved off elimination with a 25-22 victory in Game 3. Navarro bounced back to seal the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.
Hailey Weidenfeller led Navarro’s attack with 12 kills, and Allie Benner chipped in with 11. The Panthers got eight kills each from Bailey Wozniak and Peyton Roach, and Wozniak distributed 33 assists.
Weidenfeller, Wozniak, and Carolyn Burch each delivered three service aces. Sydney Sahd sparked the defensive effort with 19 digs, and Roach added 13. Weidenfeller and Roach each recorded three block assists, and Roach had a solo block.
The matchup featured two teams ranked among the TGCA’s top 10 in the 4A state poll, with Navarro checking in at No. 6 and Fredericksburg at No. 9.
Navarro’s season record is 38-5. The Panthers open the 4A Region IV Tournament at the Blossom Center in San Antonio with a semifinal match against Sinton on Friday at 1 p.m.
