Navarro girls pull away from Canyon Lake
(Fischer) - The Navarro girls basketball team turned a one-point halftime lead into a 38-31 road win over Canyon Lake on Tuesday in Fischer.

The Panthers held a 19-18 advantage at the intermission, but outscored the Hawks 19-13 in the second half to build the final seven-point margin.

Navarro's Taylor Shelton led all scorers with 11 points. Haleigh Ortiz and Amber Reneau each finished with eight, and Emily Hinkelmann added seven. Ali Harless and McKayla Hawes put in two points apiece.

Navarro (17-5) plays host to Medina Valley at the Navarro Events Center in Geronimo on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Navarro boys drop home tilt to Somerset
(Geronimo) - A 17-4 deficit after the first quarter proved too much for the Navarro boys basketball team to overcome Tuesday night in a 60-43 home loss to Somerset at the Navarro Events Center in Geronimo.

The Panthers sliced two points off the Bulldogs' lead in the second period to trail 32-21 at halftime, but Somerset won the third quarter 18-14 and the fourth 10-8 to keep Navarro at arm's length.

Will Eveld scored 17 points to lead the Panthers, and Mason McCaig notched a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double. Daniel Pina finished with seven points.

Overall, Navarro struggled offensively. The Panthers only hit 34 percent of their total field goal attempts, went 1-7 from three-point range, turned the ball over 14 times, and logged just one assist.

Navarro (6-6) plays host to Poteet this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
