Seguin boys' playoff hopes in jeopardy after home loss to Tivy, Tuesday game at Boerne-Champion to air on KWED
(Seguin) - Seguin has no margin for error in the District 26-5A boys basketball playoff race after a 44-40 loss to Kerrville-Tivy on Friday at Goldie Harris Gym.

With a 4-7 district record, the Matadors (11-19 overall) find themselves three games behind the teams who occupy the third and fourth seeds, Tivy and Dripping Springs (both 7-4) with three games left on the schedule. Alamo Heights (10-1) and Boerne-Champion (9-2) have clinched playoff berths and occupy the top two spots in the standings.

Tivy owns the head-to-head tiebreak over Seguin after sweeping the two-game district series, so the Matadors can't overtake the Antlers in the final standings.

Any Seguin loss or Dripping Springs win in the final three dates of the schedule would mathematically eliminate the Mats from playoff contention.

Seguin visits Dripping Springs on the final night of the regular season, but the Matadors have to beat Boerne-Champion and Lockhart between now and then and hope that the Tigers fall to Marble Falls and Tivy for that final game to have playoff implications.

Tivy led Friday's game 8-7 at the end of the first quarter, 21-19 at halftime, and 31-30 at the end of the third period. The Antlers edged the Mats 13-10 in the fourth quarter to notch the four-point win.

Trystin Silas scored 18 points to lead Seguin, and Michael Mickles chipped in with 11. Christian Martinez added four, R.J. Acuna three, Arturo Hernandez and Evan Head two apiece.

Tivy's Mason Roberts led all scorers with 20 points, and Abraham Viera also reached double figures with 11.

The Matadors try to keep their playoff hopes alive Tuesday with a road win over Boerne-Champion. Seguin beat the Chargers 55-42 at Goldie Harris Gym back on Jan. 12. The Chargers just handed 26-5A leader Alamo Heights its first district loss, 44-39 on Friday.

Tuesday's game will air live on KWED 1580 AM and Seguintoday.com. The opening tip is slated for 6:30 p.m., with pre-game coverage at 6:15.

Tivy knocks Seguing girls out of 26-5A playoff race
(Kerrville) - The Seguin girls basketball team dropped out contention for one of the four available playoff berths in District 26-5A Friday night with a 61-19 road loss to Kerrville-Tivy.

The defeat moves Seguin's district record to 4-9, and the overall mark to 10-21. The Matadors are two games back of the teams tied for fourth place, Lockhart and Boerne-Champion, with only one game left on the schedule, and mathematically eliminated as a result.

Seguin concludes the 2017-18 season Tuesday at Goldie Harris Gym with a 6:30 p.m. home game against Boerne-Champion.
