(Geronimo) – Navarro High School coach Darrell Harborth, who recently passed 450 career wins on the basketball court, is 1-0 as the Panthers’ head softball this season after the Panthers rolled past Manor 8-2 to open the 2018 schedule on Monday.

This is Harborth’s second stint as the school’s softball coach. He served in that capacity for one season back in 2008 as well, and guided the Panthers to a playoff berth that spring.

Alyssa Hernandez led Navarro at the plate in the opener against Manor, finishing 3-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Leadoff hitter Lindsey Gresham and No. 2 hitter Ashlea Frederick effectively set the table for Hernandez. Gresham went 2-3 with a walk, Frederick finished 2-4 and drove in a run, and each player scored twice.

Sydney Booker drove in two runs on the night, and Jaylyn Rodriguez recorded an RBI. Alexis Valdez doubled, while Booker and Katie Rickets each singled.

Valdez earned the win in the pitcher’s circle, holding Manor to two runs on five hits while striking out eight with only two walks in 6-2/3 innings.

Navarro (1-0) hosts its annual tournament at Huber Ranch this Thursday – Saturday.
