(Moulton) – The Marion girls basketball team came up short in its pursuit of a second straight 3A Region IV tournament berth Tuesday night, falling to Vanderbilt-Industrial 43-29 in the regional quarterfinals at Moulton High School.
The Bulldogs led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter, but only managed three points to Industrial’s eight in the second period to fall behind 15-13 going into halftime.
Marion’s offensive struggles continued in the third quarter. The Cobras won the period 11-4 to put the Bulldogs in a 26-17 hole heading into the fourth quarter. Marion put 12 points on the board in the final frame, but Industrial netted 17 to pull away for the 14-point win.
Madelyn Abrameit led Marion in scoring with 12 points, but she was the only Bulldog in double figures. Samantha Hopper finished with seven points and eight rebounds, while Brianna Randle totaled six points and a team-high nine rebounds. Lizzie Abrameit and Madison Batey each had two points to complete the scoring.
After winning the District 27-3A championship and advancing three rounds in the 3A Region IV playoffs, Marion’s final 2017-18 season record is 25-12.
