(Marion) – Marion opened the 2018 baseball season with three straight wins and a first-place finish in its home tournament last week, dispatching Lago Vista 4-3, Canyon Lake 7-0, and St. Anthony 11-0.
The Bulldogs trailed Lago Vista 3-0 in the first inning, but plated two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take the lead. Tyler Seboldt, Garrett Rodgers, Noah Haese, and Jared Mendez each drove in a run. Tayler Mills, Garrett Corkran, Cade Baumann, and Cameron Luensmann each scored once, and Luensmann went 2-2 at the plate. Luensmann earned the relief win on the mound with two strikeouts in a scoreless sixth innings. Mendez started and lasted five, keeping the Vikings scoreless over four frames after giving up three runs in the first.
Corkran tossed a one-hitter and struck out eight over five innings in the 7-0 shutout of Canyon Lake. He also went 2-2 with a double and two RBIs at the plate. Mills finished 2-3 and drove in two. Mendez tripled and delivered a pair of RBIs. Jayden Williams drove in a run, while Seboldt doubled and scored twice.
Haese struck out 12 in a five-inning one-hitter against St. Anthony. Marion only led 2-0 after three innings, but erupted for nine runs in the fourth. Mills went 3-4 and drove in three runs. Seboldt doubled, tripled, and drove in two with two runs scoreds. Cade Baumann delivered two RBIs as well, while Luensmann went 3-3 with two runs scored and one driven in. Williams finished 1-2 with an RBI and two runs.
Marion (3-0) competes in the Bandera tournament this Friday and Saturday.
