Boysen, Drgac earn SCAC Week 5 awards, help TLU baseball sweep McMurry

(Seguin) - Texax Lutheran Baseball swept week five's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards as the conference announced Keaton Boysen as the Hitter of the Week and Dylan Drgac as Pitcher of the Week for games played through Sunday.

The duo helped TLU sweep a three-game home series against McMurry at Katt-Isbel Field last week. The Bulldogs beat the Warhawks 5-2 on Friday, then took both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader, 6-1 and 17-9.

It was the first Hitter of the Week honor for Boysen and the third time this season a Bulldog hitter has earned the award.

After being out due to injury since October, Boysen led the Bulldogs with a .556 batting average in the series against McMurry.

Boysen went a combined 5-for-9 with five runs scored and four runs driven home. In the 5-2 victory Friday, TLU was trailing 2-0 when Boysen singled out to left field with bases loaded to open scoring for the Bulldogs.

Boysen played an impressive game in Saturday’s series finale, collecting collected four hits, driving in three, and scoring four times.

Drgac, a senior right-handed pitcher from Caldwell, Texas, earned his second Pitcher of the Week honor.

Drgac tossed a complete game and struck out 11 in Friday’s series opening win over McMurry. He allowed two runs in the sixth - one earned and one unearned. He scattered four hits and had no walks.

Tyler Cauley plated one run and collected two hits for the Bulldogs on Friday. Eric Rabinowitz had two hits and drove in one.

Cauley went a combined 4-for-9 with two runs scored and four RBIs in Saturday’s doubleheader. TLU accrued 25 hits on the day, including 12 extra base hits (10 doubles, two triples) in the 17-9 win.

Redshirt-junior Nathan Malinovsky pitched a complete game in Saturday’s opener. He allowed five hits and struck out 10 with only one walk to improve to 2-1.

In Saturday’s finale, Drew Waller produced his second pitching win of the season with 5-2/3 innings of work. Waller struck out three. Cade Killingsworth entered the second game in the seventh inning with TLU clinging to a 12-8 lead. Killingsworth pitched 2-1/3 innings without allowing a run to pick up his first save of the season.

The Bulldogs are on the road for their next contest in Richardson, Texas for a three-game series against University of Texas at Dallas. Game one is set for Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the UTD Complex.

TLU heads to Richardson for a three-game series against UT-Dallas this weekend. The Bulldogs and Comets play a single game on Friday at 2 p.m., and a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
