|Navarro's Kohl, Carter lead area runners in Lockhart cross country meet|
(Lockhart) - Navarro High School senior Ivy Kohl claimed the first place medal in the girls small school 3,000 meter race at the Lockhart Invitational Cross Country meet on Saturday, and the Panthers' Bryce Carter, also a senior, took second place in the boys competition.
Kohl posted a winning time of 11:33.07 to help Navarro finish fourth among seven schools in the varsity girls team standings.
Carter finished the boys race in 9:46.55 to finish just .61 seconds behind gold medalist Will Hilscher of the Austin Royals. As a team, the Navarro boys ended up fourth among 11 schools.
Navarro's Jaelyn Martinez finished 12th among the 49 runners in the girls competition (12:35.12), Haley Blades came in 23rd (13:46.99), Avery Strauss finished 30th (14:31.05), and Sabrina Sneed ended up 36th (14:48.86).
On the boys side, the Panthers' Simon Coleman took 25th place (11:15.21), Hunter Monroe finished 28th (11:19.78), Aaron Calderon 35th (11:40.37), and Tanner Sanchez 39th (11:57.22) in a field of 82 runners.
Seguin's cross country teams competed in the big school (5A-6A) division, with the boys finishing 12th among 16 participating schools.
The Matadors' individual finishers in the boys race include Jerry Garcia (36th - 10:13.55), Cheney Stephenson (52nd - 10:42.36), Louis Flores (66th - 10:56.18), Leonardo Costilla (106th - 11:45.47), and Dylan Gonzales (110th - 12:00.70).
Two Seguin athletes competed in the girls varsity race, with Brenda Vargas finishing 51st (13:01.40) and Nayeli Segura 68th (13:19.89) in a field of 107 competitors.
Seguin competes in the New Braunfels Cross Country Invitational this Saturday at the Comal County Fairgrounds, while Navarro hosts its home meet.
Marion cross country teams compete in Dripping Springs event
(Dripping Springs) - The Marion boys cross country team finished seventh in the overall standings at the Dripping Springs Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, while the Marion girls ended up in eighth.
In the boys 4,000 meter race, Marion's individual finishers include Logan Wolf in 49th place (14:08.2), Austin Hodges 56th (14:59.4), Konner Harborth 61st (15:29.3), Joshua Galaviz 62nd (15:32.4), Lane Pawelek 66th (16:08.8), Luke Lanier 68th (16:38.6), and Jack Lanier 69th (16:39.6)
On the girls side, Rebecca Svochak finished 60th (18:02), Ashleigh Gonzales 64th (18:48.9), Sunny Knight 65th (18:51), Autumn Holmes 66th, (19:05.2), Catherine Koehler 68th (19:10.6), Breanna Valadez 69th (19:32.5), and Kohana Stanberry 75th (21:18.5).
Marion's next cross country meet is Thursday in Schulenburg.
