Mildred Rose Blay was born on June 9, 1919 in Guadalupe County and passed away on October 20, 2017, at the age of 98.
Her parents were Willie and Alma (Knetsch) Carley. She was the only girl in a family of five children. She grew up on a farm and lived all her life in Seguin. In 1935, she met and married Vernon Lee Blay. They had five children before he passed away at the young age of forty-four. Her family was so blessed to have her in their lives as she was a wonderful mother and grandmother, known as Gammy to her grandchildren. She was an excellent homemaker and baker, known for the best
yeast rolls and chocolate crinkles. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Chester Carley, Willie Carley (Vernelle), and Ray Carley (Laura Mae); daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen Blay, Barbara Tschoepe (Allen), Bob Spell. She is survived by her brother, Bob Carley (Evelyn), Daughter Betty Spell, sons, Vernon Lee Blay, Jr., and Roger Blay; grandchildren, Crystal Barnett (Donnie), Danny Spell (Liz), Stephen Tschoepe, Tina Van Booven (Steve), Doug Tschoepe, Corey Blay (Stephanie); great-grandchildren, Derek Barnett (Sarah), Ashley Van Booven, Tyler Van Booven, Logan Van Booven, Brodie Blay, and Nataleigh Blay; great great-granddaughter, Evangelina Barnett, two months old, who Gammy said, "She doesn't even know me, but I love her." Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 2PM at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev.
