SFC James Russell Johnson, US Army (Ret.), age 83 of Seguin, passed away on January 20, 2018. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 2 to 4 p.m.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, February, 5, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at King of Kings Lutheran Church in San Antonio.  Interment with military honors will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.  James was born on June 13, 1934 in Wake Forest Virginia. James was raised in Virginia, He played several sports while he was growing up.  He worked at Walter Reed Medical Center.  He was a veteran in the Vietnam War in which he was a nurse and rendered aide to many to be shipped out to be sent home for further treatment, and after the war he was transferred to several other places until he was sent to Brooke Army Medical Center where he retried. He worked several years for the Civil Service at Kelly A.F.B. until it closed and was then transferred to Tinker A.F.B. for 2 years and retired, and then returned to Seguin and bought a home and truly retired...  He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Macy Lou Johnson, his mother, Elsie Johnson, and brothers, Richard and Bill Johnson. Survivors include his loving wife, Karen Johnson; children, Emmett Johnson and wife Sheila, Brigette Johnson and husband Marcus Harvey, and Rebecca Jackson and husband Ssgt. Elmer Jackson, US Army (Ret.); brother, Douglas Johnson and wife Joyce; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and many friends.  Memorial contributions may be made to King of Kings Lutheran Church, 13888 Dreamwood Dr., San Antonio, Texas, 78233 or to the American Diabetes Association, San Antonio, Texas Office, 1100 NE Loop 410 #110, San Antonio, Texas, 78209.  You are invited to sign the guest book at www.treshewell.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Tres Hewell Mortuary, 165 Tor Dr., Seguin, Texas, 78155, 830-549-5912.
